Letters from the Past

A ’love letter’ to Lowestoft’s old post office.

Interrogating its history and opening up a conversation about its future, the Letters from the Past project celebrates the old Post Office at 51 London Road North, Lowestoft, before it is redeveloped and repurposed.

Acclaimed poet Luke Wright has worked in partnership with First Light Festival C.I.C. and the HSHAZ to weave real memories and anecdotes into a long-form poetic ballad. The resulting Post Office Elegy has been published in book form, alongside a video version that can be viewed at the top of this page. Launched in November of 2022, the book will be shared with locals as a form of remembrance, that enshrines the building in an imaginative and creative way.
